Former Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu’s Body Arrives in Nigeria

The mortal remains of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, have been repatriated to Nigeria from Germany, where he passed away. The plane carrying Akeredolu’s body touched down at approximately 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024.

The somber arrival ceremony at the airport was led by Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the wife of the late governor, accompanied by his children and siblings, including Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother. Dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by Secretary to the State Government Mr. Tokunbi Talabi; and a representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke, were also present to pay their respects.

The Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu, and several members of the state executive council were on hand to receive the body. Other notable attendees included the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, and House of Representatives member Hon. Gboyega Adefarati.

The emotional scene at the airport was palpable, as family members, followers, friends, and associates struggled to contain their grief during the solemn moment when the late governor’s body was lowered from the plane.

Rotimi Akeredolu passed away in Germany on December 26, 2023, and, as reported by Vanguard Newspaper, his remains had been kept at the morgue until the time of the final burial, the details of which are yet to be disclosed. The return of Akeredolu’s body marks a poignant moment as the nation mourns the loss of a respected statesman and political leader.
